Established as a solution to the increasing demand for an accessible and affordable tertiary education, the Gov. Alfonso D. Tan College (formerly Tangub City College) is a city-owned academic institution that caters to the deserving yet underprivileged students in the province of Misamis Occidental. The initiative was made possible by the enactment of a city ordinance in 1984, spearheaded by then city mayor, Alfonso D. Tan

Presently, the college is open for students who wanted to take up a degree in Education, Arts, Social Sciences, Business, Criminal Justice Education, and Computer studies. Short courses in Computer Technology, Office Administration, Midwifery, and Computer Secretarial Course are also available and can be completed for at least two (2) years. And being a TESDA-accredited school, a technical-vocational training education in Computer Programming with a national certificate is also up for grabs.
