Formerly the Samar Regional School of Fisheries, the
Samar State University - Mercedes is one of the public satellite campuses operating under the province-wide university system of the
Samar State University. The integration of the campus happened in 1999 when the institution was converted into a college by the enactment of RA 8745, or the General Appropriations Act of 1999. This, in turn, led to the recommendation of the school to be part of the university system, which was later on approved.
And being the
College of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, the campus primarily offers undergraduate programs in
Fisheries, Fisheries Education, Marine Biology, and
Marine Engineering. In addition to these programs is a
diploma degree in
Fisheries Technology which aims to produce skilled and competent manpower that will surely make a
significant contribution in the fishery industry.
