What does University of St. La Salle stand for?

The University of St. La Salle (USLS) is a private Catholic Institution founded by three American brothers namely Br. Dennis Ruland FSC, Br. Hugh Wester FSC, and Br. V. Felix Masson FSC in 1952, and it was initially named as the La Salle College-Bacolod. The college was elevated to its university status in 1988, opening its Colleges of Engineering, Education, Nursing, Law, as well as its Graduate School.

The Colleges of Arts and Sciences, Business, and Accountancy and Education obtained Level III accreditation from the Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (PAASCU). USLS also has an Integrated School that caters students from Kindergarten to Grade 10. It also has a Senior High School department that offers Academic with ABM, STEM, HUMSS and GAS strand; Sports, Arts and Design, and Technical-Vocational Tracks.

USLS is dedicated to its mission of bringing quality education for all. It has a program to help Children-at-Risk and Children-in-Conflict with the Law, called The Bahay Pag-Asa Youth Center with a mission of reducing the violence and giving the children their fair share of quality education while also developing spiritually. The school also has a Social Development Office established in 1987 called Balayan. The goal of the said program is to empower every child with Christian values to make them aware and sensitive to the status of their community.

Since its establishment, University of St. La Salle has produced a number of notable alumni such as Alvin Elchico – a journalist, Mercedes Alvarez – the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Philippines, Alfonso Cusi – Secretary of Energy, Bro. Rolando Ramos Dizon, FSC, – De La Salle Brother and Chairman of The Commission on Higher Education, Joel Torre – Film and Television actor and a lot more.

University of St. La Salle Facts:

  • A monthly newspaper, magazine and literary folio made by the students of USLS called The Spectrum is one of the oldest student publications in the Philippines.
  • USLS Medical Student, Julius Dominique Lagtapon Anjao from USLS won Research Award in Pattaya, Thailand for being the Best in Paper and Oral Presentation by World Organization of Family Doctors (WONCA) Asia Pacific Regional Conference in 2017.
  • A group of Computer Science students, Joseph Mark Anthony Huelgas, Paul Anthony Faburada, Meltito Vagallon and Roston Labayen bagged the Best Educational Game Award on Electronic Sports and Gaming Summit and Philippine Game Festival 2017.
